April 3-5, 2010
Day 1: April 3, 2010 - Saturday – The Palladian Villas and the City center of Vicenza
Vicenza, morning: meet with the tourist guide and external visit of Villa La Rotonda and Villa Valmarana. Lunch. In the afternoon, visit of the city center of Vicenza: walk along Corso Palladio with the most important Palladian buildings, Palazzo Montanari, Palazzo Chiericati, La Basilica Palladiana, and Teatro Olimpico. After the tour, dinner in a typical restaurant on the hills near Vicenza, overnight in hotel.
Day 2: April 4, 2010 – Sunday – Villa Godi Malinverni, Marostica & Bassano
Breakfast in hotel, then meet with the guide and start the day tour with a visit to Villa Godi Malinverni in Lonedo di Lugo Vicentino, it is the first villa designed by Palladio. Then proceed to Bassano del Grappa with stop at Marostica, a medieval city famous for its Piazza degli Scacchi where, every two years, the Chess game with living figures takes place. Lunch. In the afternoon, walk along the streets of Bassano del Grappa with visit to the Ponte degli Alpini (Alpini-Soldiers Bridge), an historical wooden-bridge firstly designed by Andrea Palladio. Option: visit to the Grappa Museum with Grappa spirit tasting. After the tour, back to the hotel for some relax. In the evening, dinner in a typical restaurant of Vicenza. Overnight in hotel.
Day 3: April 5, 2010 – Monday – Costozza Borough, Villa Pisani & Wine Tasting
Breakfast in hotel, then meet with the tour leader and start the excursion to the Colli Berici (Berici Hills), hill area south of Vicenza famous for its natural paths, the production of Grana Padano Cheese and the Red Barbarano-Tocai Wine. Visit of Villa da Schio in Costozza, an ancient borough where Galileo Galilei dwelled and studied. The villa is a large private estate with a wonderful Italian-style garden and an elegant building set in the rocky wall of the hill; Count Giulio Da Schio will lead the visitors through his property till the cave where the good cabernet wine bottles are kept. Lunch in a typical restaurant. In the afternoon, visit of Villa Pisani at Lonigo, another masterpiece of Palladian art. Option: visit to a local winery to taste some of the best wines of the Berici Hills.
